5 of the Top Most Secure Places in the World

10 May, 2021

We are in the business of securing places and people, and some locations require higher levels of security than others. We thought it would be interesting to put together a small list of some of the most secure places in the world, you can probably guess what a few of them are…

Fort Knox, Kentucky, USA

Fort Knox (United States Bullion Depository) is known to be the “most secure vault on the planet.” It holds up to half of the U.S gold reserves and is home to 40,000 soldiers, their family members, and employees at the Fort Knox Army Post. The vault is hidden in a basement with a 250 ton door at the entrance. The building that holds the vault is made out of concrete lined granite and reinforced steel to help withstand attacks. The U.S Treasury has said that Fort Knox is “equipped with the latest and most modern protective devices.”

Area 51, Nevada, USA

You have probably heard of Area 51 and the mystery surrounding it. The popular name refers to a map location for a United States Air Force base. It is situated in a dry lake bed in the Nevada Desert, 85 miles north of Las Vegas. The goings on inside Area 51 are notoriously secret, leading to many conspiracy theories and rumours. It is out of bounds to members of the public, who are kept away by warning signs, electronic surveillance and armed guards. It is also illegal to fly over Area 51!

Vatican Secret Archives, Vatican City, Italy

The Vatican holds some of the most sacred and rare documents in religious history. It is estimated that there is 35,000 volumes of information archived there, in a separate secret building which is not part of the Vatican library. The information is passed down from Pope to Pope and only a research officer can enter the archives with special permission, which is rarely granted.

The White House, Washington, D.C. USA

It seems fairly obvious that the White House would be one of the most secure places in the world, being home to the President of the United States. It is fitted with an iron fence around the entire premises, bulletproof windows, a nuclear bunker, a 15 mile radius no-fly zone over the area, and a special secret service detail devoted to protecting the First Family at all times and at all costs.

Bold Lane Car Park, Derby, England

Also on our list, slightly less glamorous but more amusing, is a multi-storey car park in Derby. It has been said to be one of the most secure places in the world. This car park is open 24 hours a day and holds 440 parking bays. The high security measures were introduced in the 1990s when the car park became a popular location for crime. The bays are protected with individual barcodes, sensors and other high-tech security equipment, and barriers also come down if security is breached.
